The U.S. military has carried out a strike in Baghdad against an Iraqi militia leader it blames for attacks against U.S. forces in the country, killing him and another person, a U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday.
The U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the strike hit a vehicle in Baghdad.
It targeted a leader of Harakat al Nujaba, the official said, without naming the person.
The U.S. military has come under attack at least 100 times in Iraq and Syria since the Israel-Hamas war began in October, usually with a mix of rockets and one-way attack drones.
The United States has 2,500 troops deployed in Iraq and 900 in neighbouring Syria in a bid to prevent a resurgence of Islamic State militants.
In a tragic incident, Om Fahad, an Iraqi TikTok sensation known to her online followers, was fatally shot outside her home in eastern Baghdadâs Zayouna district. Surveillance footage captured the attack on Friday, depicting a lone assailant, clad in dark clothing and a helmet, dismounting a motorcycle, advancing towards a black SUV, and shooting Om Fahad, who was seated inside. The Ministry of Interior has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.

Shortly after a significant explosion shook an Iraqi military base, the nation's security services reported that no drones or warplanes were detected in the air at the time of the incident.
